Pa. SC hopefuls to spend $4m+ on two seats - UPDATE
HARRISBURG -- Three of the four candidates for two vacancies on the
Pennsylvania Supreme Court expect to spend at least $1 million each between now and the Nov. 3 election.
Democrat
Debra Todd and Republican
Maureen Lally-Green, both state Superior Court judges from western Butler County, described yesterday the stress of campaign fund-raising, the Philadelphia Inquirer
reported. Todd's campaign has so far raised $716,000 and Lally-Green's $838,000, it added.
The pair, plus Republican Supreme Court candidate and Environmental Hearing Board Chief
Michael Krancer, spoke Wednesday at a Philadelphia Bar Association forum. Krancer, who has raised over $1 million so far, said his campaign had been funded largely through family wealth.
"I'd rather be raising money for charity than for a judicial campaign," Todd told the audience yesterday. "Each of us anticipates spending at least $1 million."
The fourth candidate, Democrat
Seamus P. McCaffery, did not attend but has also raised over $1 million, the Inquirer reported. McCaffery is known as the 'Eagles Judge' for establishing a makeshift courtroom at Philadelphia Eagles home games,
