Former plaintiffs' attorney to lead Calif. Judges Association
Mary Wiss
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline)-San Francisco Superior Court Judge Mary Wiss was elected president of the California Judges Association this week.

The former plaintiffs' attorney will begin her one-year term Sept. 28. She succeeds Plumas County Judge Ira Kaufman.

Wiss will become the third woman to lead the 77-year-old association of jurists. She is currently serving a three-year term on the association's executive board.

The California Judges Association represents California's 2,800 active and retired state judges, justices, commissioners, referees and State Bar Court judges.

Wiss was appointed to the San Francisco Superior Court in 2001 where she has served in the criminal division. Before her appointment to the bench, Wiss specialized in personal injury and wrongful death cases.

She was president of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and Queen's Bench.

Other officers elected by the association Monday in Sacramento were Fresno Judge Robert Oliver, who will serve as vice president.

As an attorney, he specialized in estate planning, trust and probate law.

Los Angeles Judge Ann Jones will serve as secretary-treasurer. She is assigned to the civil department in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Before her appointment, Jones was a magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

As an attorney, she practiced antitrust and competition law.
