Oklahoma AG featured in anti-gay campaign flyer
W.A. Drew Edmondson (D)
Brent Rinehart (R)
OKLAHOMA CITY (Legal Newsline)-Oklahoma Attorney General W.A. Drew Edmondson is featured in a county commissioner's anti-gay campaign comic book.

In the comic created by Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart, a devil threatens a small child with a pitchfork, saying" "If I can get the kids to believe homosexuality is normal!" while an angel yells, "Not with Brent around you won't!"

In an interview Monday on CNN, Rinehart defended the 16-page comic book he planned to send to registered Republicans in his district, saying, "One person's mud-slinging, I guess, is another man's issues."

Rinehart, who is in the midst of a re-election battle, called the comic book "a novel approach to telling a story." He added that he believes "the homosexual agenda is an issue in this campaign," just as area roads are.

In his CNN interview, Rinehart criticized Edmondson, a Democrat, for filing campaign complaints against him because of his opposition to gay rights.

"We have an attorney general here in the state of Oklahoma that has used his office for political means, filed campaign charges against me, and it's based on my opposition to the homosexual agenda," he said.

"The attorney general, Mr. Drew Edmondson, sued the Boy Scouts of America because they would not allow homosexual Boy Scout leaders as leaders," Rinehart added.

In the cartoon, Edmondson appears holding a sign saying, "Gay rights now!"

A caption says Edmondson "put Oklahoma on record to force the Boy Scots to accept homosexuals as scout leaders, a pedifile's (sic) dream come true."

Edmondson last year filed felony charges against Rinehart, accusing him of perjury, conspiracy, and money laundering in connection with his 2004 campaign.
