TOPEKA, Kan. (Legal Newsline)-Kansas Attorney General Steve Six on Tuesday shut down an out-of-state travel company for allegedly engaging in deceptive business practices by misleading their customers.

Elite Escapes International LLC has been served with a temporary restraining order by the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, a statement said.

The attorney general's office said the Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based company had been offering vacation travel club services to Kansans through telemarketing and presentations in local hotels.

The company also conducts business under the name Vacation International Professional Services LLC or as VIP Travel. The company is believed to be operated by Michael Mitchell, a South Carolina resident, the AG's office said.

The attorney general said Elite Escapes has committed numerous violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act relating to deceptive business practices and illegal prize notifications.

"Yesterday, my office shut down an out-of-state travel company we believe was participating in deceptive business practices," Six said.

"Through quick action, my office--with assistance from the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office--was able to stop this company and protect Kansas consumers," he added.
