OKLAHOMA CITY (Legal Newsline)--The Oklahoma Supreme Court on Friday declined to block a two-month state tax amnesty program set to begin Monday, which is aimed at generating state revenue.

The tax amnesty was challenged by Oklahoma City attorney Jerry Fent, who sued arguing that it is unconstitutional for the state to waive penalties and interest on back taxes.

Fent has said the event is an "unconstitutional civil amnesty to
deadbeat taxpayers."

The amnesty program will allow individuals and companies to have their penalties and interest waived between Sept. 15 and Nov. 14 of this year.

The program, part of a deal between the governor and state lawmakers, is expected to raise more than $30 million in revenues for the cash-strapped state.
