Eid exits Colorado AG race
Troy Eid (R)
John Suthers (R)
DENVER (Legal Newsline)-Former Colorado U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said Monday he will not run for state attorney general after incumbent and fellow Republican John Suthers announced he planned to seek reelection in 2010.

Suthers had been considering a run for governor or the U.S. Senate, but instead said he planned to seek another term as Colorado's chief legal officer.

Suthers is the only Republican to hold statewide office in Colorado. He had been considering challenging Sen. Michael Bennet, the Democrat recently appointed by Gov. Bill Ritter to replace Ken Salazar, who was tapped to serve as President Barack Obama's secretary of the interior.

Eid, a Republican, resigned last week, the day before President Barack Obama was inaugurated. It is not unusual for U.S. attorneys to leave their post with an incoming administration.

He says he has not decided whether he'll seek other elective office.

As the top federal prosecutor in Colorado, Eid helped oversee the insider trading case against former Qwest Communications International Inc. CEO Joseph Nacchio.

Eid, 44, has rejoined the Miami-based law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, at its Denver office, where he worked from 2003 to 2006 as an environmental lawyer.

He is also an adjunct professor in American Indian law at the University of Colorado School of Law.

Eid is married to Colorado Supreme Court Justice Allison Eid.
