RICHMOND (Legal Newsline) - Former Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell has a familiar opponent in his race for governor.
Democrat Creigh Deeds easily won his party's primary Tuesday, taking in 50 percent of the vote in a three-man race. Deeds is a state senator who took down Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran.
McDonnell defeated Deeds in 2005 to become attorney general, but won by only 323 votes.
Even President Barack Obama called to congratulate Deeds, according to a report in the
Washington Post.
Bill Mims, McDonnell's chief deputy attorney general, is serving McDonnell's term. McDonnell resigned to focus on his campaign.
Del. Steve Shannon is facing state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli in the race for attorney general.
