DeWine plans on run at Ohio AG

DeWine

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Mike DeWine, a former U.S. Senator, says he will run for Ohio Attorney General next year.

The Republican made the announcement Wednesday, noting that the job excited him. DeWine spent 12 years in the Senate and has also served in the U.S. House of Representatives and Ohio Senate.

"It's a job I think my background and experience will allow me to walk in the door with an agenda and see that agenda through," DeWine said, according to a report in the Columbus Dispatch.

The current attorney general, Democrat Richard Cordray, was elected last year to fill out the term started in 2007 by Democrat Marc Dann, who resigned in May 2008 because of a sex scandal.

DeWine spent eight years in the U.S. House of Representatives before becoming lieutenant governor of Ohio under Gov. George Voinovich in 1991.

He then spent 12 years in the Senate before losing a re-election bid to Sherrod Brown in 2006. DeWine and Voinovich spent eight years together in the Senate.
