WAUKESHA, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced a settlement with an engine manufacturer on Tuesday, over alleged air pollution violations at a manufacturing facility.
Dresser Inc. was accused by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources of emitting excessive amounts of organic hazardous air pollutants into the air, derived from three spray paint booths at the plant.
The complaint filed in the case alleged that from Jan. 2007-April 2008, Dresser exceeded the HAP emissions limit.
"The excessive emission of air pollution can threaten the quality of the air we breathe and public health," Van Hollen said.
"The Wisconsin Department of Justice will continue to work with the Department of Natural Resources to ensure that such laws are followed."
Under terms of the agreement, Dresser has agreed to pay penalties totaling $85,000. The Republican AG noted that the company did begin reducing its HAP emissions to legal levels in May of 2008.
Most of the judges on the New Mexico Court of Appeals get a failing grade when it comes to the "expansion of liability," according to a judicial evaluation report.
