Missouri company settles allegations of failing to pay prevailing wage

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has obtained a consent judgment against a contracting company alleged to have violated Missouri's Prevailing Wage Law.

Advantage Telecom, Inc., was awarded a public works project installing a communications and computer system for the Springfield R-12 School District. A Division of Labor Standards review of the company's payroll records for the project found that 22 workers were not paid the appropriate prevailing wage for their worked performed on the project.

"Missouri's prevailing wage law has been clear for more than 50 years; prevailing wages must be paid on Missouri's public works and construction projects," Koster said.

"The Attorney General's Office will aggressively enforce this law and pursue charges against any contractor who violates the prevailing wage law and does not pay workers what they are due."

Advantage Telecom, Inc., under terms of the consent judgment, has agreed to comply with the Missouri Prevailing Wage laws as well as pay civil penalties of $16,750 to the Springfield R-12 School District.

The Missouri Prevailing Wage Law requires anyone employed to work on a public works project be paid a wage that is no less than the prevailing hourly rate for similar work in the locality.
