Former appeals judge wins GOP nod for Mich. AG

DETROIT (Legal Newsline) - Midland attorney and former Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Bill Schuette has won the Republican nomination for Michigan attorney general.
Schuette squeaked out a 1,072 to 971 victory over state Sen. Mike Bishop over the weekend, accepting his party's nomination at the state's GOP convention held in Lansing on Saturday.
After the vote tally was done, Bishop made a motion to cast a unanimous ballot for Schuette.
Schuette, 56, is also a former state senator, U.S. Congressman and state agriculture director.
Schuette told
The Detroit News he would continue to pursue current Attorney General Mike Cox's lawsuit against President Barack Obama administration's health care reform.
In March, Cox said Schuette is the best candidate to replace him.
Schuette will face Democratic nominee and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton in November.
