Former Spitzer aide launches site for snitches

NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - A securities law firm has launched a website that targets corporate whistleblowers protected by recently passed Wall Street reform.

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act signed into law by President Barack Obama in July allows whistleblowers to remain anonymous until they collect, which could be between 10 percent to 30 percent of any money seized.

The law firm of Stuart D. Meissner on Tuesday launched www.SECSnitch.com. Meissner worked as an assistant attorney general under Eliot Spitzer in New York.

The unveiling coincides with Oliver Stone's latest movie being released. "Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps" comes out Friday and features a character named "Jake."

"We want to encourage the future 'Jakes' of Wall Street to come forward and show that the famous movie phrase 'Greed is Good' can be a positive force for Wall Street and not just a negative force," Meissner said.

Meissner authored an article on Forbes.com in July titled "Law Lets Whistleblowers Get Rich For Doing the Right Thing." He is meeting with regulators in Washington later this month.

Meanwhile, the website will be the subject of an advertising campaign. An ad will appear in theatres around New York and targets securities industry employees.

Meissner has already filed five complaints with the Securities and Exchange Commission because of the new statute. Included are complaints against Bank of America Investment Services and Wells Fargo Investments.
