PASCAGOULA, Miss. (Legal Newsline) - Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood says he plans to put pressure on Ken Feinberg, head of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility.

Hood said at a stop in Pascagoula for a law enforcement forum that he remains cautious when it comes to Feinberg.

"I've gotten to a point where I've got to see it to believe it," Hood said, according to the Mississippi Press.

Hood told the newspaper that he is planning four town hall meetings this month to see what issues those filing claims are facing. The attorney general said his office would bring waivers to the meetings, allowing his staff full access to files.

Hood served Feinberg with a subpoena last month asking for full access to the claims records. The attorney general told the newspaper on Friday that he still hasn't gained access.

An explosion and fire occurred on Transocean's drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, licensed to BP, on April 20, killing 11 workers and resulting in the largest offshore spill in U.S. history.

The Press reported that more than 8,100 individuals and businesses have been offered final payments from the $20 billion compensation fund in the past two weeks, but few have accepted.

Those filing claims have 90 days to accept or reject an offer from the fund.

Feinberg also says nearly 100,000 claims made to the GCCF lacked supporting evidence.
