Report: N.Y. state judges seeking $23,000 pay raise

ALBANY, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - New York's state judges are reportedly pushing for a nearly $25,000 pay raise.
The court system submitted a budget proposal Thursday that would increase judges' pay from $136,700 to $160,000 a year, according to the
New York Daily News.
It would be the first pay increase for state judges in 13 years, the newspaper said.
The raises, which would add nearly $28 million to the court budget, would be offset by savings from streamlining court operations and continued elimination of the system's nonjudicial employees, the Daily News reported.
State judges aren't the only ones to get a boost in pay recently.
New York's Supreme Court justices also will see an increase in their paychecks.
In August, the state's Judicial Compensation Commission voted to increase the annual salaries of justices from $136,700 to $160,000 in 2012, $167,000 in 2013 and $174,000 in 2014.
