LINCOLN, Neb. (Legal Newsline) - Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning is officially running for U.S. Senate.

According to Nebraska Radio Network, the conservative Republican filed Monday morning with the Secretary of State's Office.

Fellow Republicans Spencer Zimmerman, a truck driver from Omaha, and Don Stenberg, the state's treasurer, also have filed, according to a statewide candidate list last updated Friday.

The radio network reported state Sen. Deb Fischer and businessman Pat Flynn also plan to file but haven't yet.

So far, Democrats Larry Marvin, Steven P. Lustgarten and Sherman Yates all have filed.

The candidates are vying for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Democrat Ben Nelson.

Nelson, 70, announced in December he would not seek re-election, saying it was "time to move on."
