Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli has welcomed Brian J. Larivee to the firm’s Boston office as counsel in the Intellectual Property Department and the Hatch Waxman and Biologics Practice. With extensive experience in private practice and in-house in litigation for both start-up and Fortune 500 biotechnology companies, Larivee brings a unique lens to representing clients, having directly advised CEOs, CLOs, global franchise leads and boards of directors on how the law of patent litigation intersects with the business imperatives of running a biotechnology company.

“Brian brings a wealth of experience from the biotechnology sector and his perspective from his in-house roles will be a great asset to our clients,” said Patrick Woolley, Chair of the Intellectual Property Department. “We look forward to leveraging his skills for our clients across the entire firm and to further enhancing our capabilities in the pharmaceuticals space."

“I'm thrilled to join a firm with leading practices in IP and health care. I am looking forward to helping Polsinelli expand its practice in Boston and contributing to the continued growth of the firm’s litigation practice, especially in biotechnology,” said Larivee.

As an in-house litigation leader, Larivee developed and implemented litigation and licensing freedom-to-operate strategies for a trailblazing molecular diagnostics company that focused on gene sequencing, computational biology and diagnostic software. On the therapeutics side, he developed strategies and directed counsel around the world for a Fortune 500 biotechnology company. His work covered domestic and international patent disputes related to small molecule pharmaceuticals, biologic medicines and biosimilars.

Before his in-house roles, he spent nearly ten years practicing IP litigation at other Boston area firms on a variety of technologies including smartphones, semiconductors and software. Larivee received his J.D. from Boston University and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Amherst College.

Polsinelli’s Intellectual Property Department was named Law Firm of the Year in the 2023 edition of U.S. News – Best Lawyers® "Best Law Firms," and received a Powerhouse ranking in Intellectual Property Litigation by BTI Litigation Outlook 2023, a designation only the top 1% of all firms included in the report receive.

Polsinelli has one of the largest IP practices in the nation, with more than 160 attorneys, patent agents, scientists, and other professionals who handle some of the most complex issues facing technology and high-tech companies, bioscience and life sciences companies, animal science, medical device, pharmaceutical, chemical, software and business methods. The firm’s team of patent attorneys represents individuals and global, national, and regional companies in patent matters.
