Attorney General Moody Demands Congress Permanently Defund Hamas-Tied United Nations Relief and Works Agency
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Ashley Moody is demanding the U.S. Congress permanently defund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency after a recent investigation revealed the agency continues to be tied to terrorism. The organization is linked to Hamas and incites hatred by spreading antisemitism. Attorney General Moody, with 23 other attorneys general, today sent a letter to Congress demanding the immediate and permanent suspension of U.S. taxpayer funds being sent to the organization.
Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “We are demanding Congress stop funding the Hamas-tied United Nations Relief and Works Agency. This group funds antisemitic education and is tied to terrorist organizations. There is no justification to continue sending this group money, as we would never tolerate American tax dollars being used to advance antisemitic hate here at home.”
Attorney General Moody and the coalition are urging congressional leadership to permanently stop sending U.S. funds to UNRWA. The coalition argues, “On Oct. 7, UNRWA staff participated in the worst pogrom against Jews since the Holocaust. Two months ago, 26 States wrote to Congress warning that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency was up to no good. And we were right. Not one more dollar should go to fund this organization so long as it is committed to spreading antisemitism—much less an organization 10% of which had links to the foreign terror organization Hamas.”
The coalition continues, “A recent UN-ordered investigation found that the situation is as bad as the States had predicted. That investigation found that UNRWA textbooks included antisemitic content and that UNRWA staff were violating the UN principle of neutrality with their social media posts.”
Earlier this year, Attorney General Moody previously called on Congress to suspend funding of UNRWA unless the organization engaged in serious reform. To read the letter, click here.
