Attorney General Josh Stein announced today that the United States District Court in Arizona has rejected Avid Telecom’s multiple attempts to dismiss and delay a bipartisan, 49-state lawsuit. The suit is against Michael D. Lansky, L.L.C., which operates as Avid Telecom, as well as its owner Michael D. Lansky and vice president Stacey S. Reeves.

The legal action was initiated by forty-nine attorneys general who are members of the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force. They filed the lawsuit against Avid in May 2023, accusing the company of initiating and facilitating billions of illegal robocalls to millions of people across the nation.

“Robocalls are a scourge,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “I’m pleased the court agreed that the defendants’ attempt to dismiss the case was baseless. I’m going to work to get North Carolinians a break from these scam calls.”

Avid Telecom allegedly sent or attempted to transmit more than 24 billion scam calls over a four-year period about various scams including Social Security Administration, Medicare, auto warranty, Amazon, DirecTV, credit card interest rate reduction, and employment scams. Despite being notified at least 329 times that these illegal robocalls were being sent across their networks, they continued transmitting these calls.
