CHICAGO — An individual is suing Sheriff Thomas Dart, the Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board and Cook County, Ill. for alleged fraud and negligent misrepresentation.

Kelly Mrozek, a former Cook County Sheriff's Department police officer, filed a complaint on Jan. 3 in the Cook County Circuit Court, alleging that the board, which fired her, was "illegal because appointments of board members by defendant Dart" violated state law.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was damaged from being terminated based on the claim that she was violating the sheriff's department's regulations. The plaintiff holds Dart responsible for allegedly prosecuting her "before an illegal administrative board."

The plaintiff seeks an order for the defendants to return her to active employment; an order for the defendants to expunge, purge and remove the board's void decision; court costs; and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Christopher Cooper of Fraternal Order of Police Legal Defense Plan Attorney in Griffith, Ind.
