PITTSBURGH – A man hit in the head by a flying beer can at a Jason Aldean concert has sued after being knocked unconscious and suffering injuries.

Don’t sell beers in unopened cans, Michael Mollenkopf’s lawsuit filed last week in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas warns. He is suing Live Nation, Crossroads Properties and Legends Hospitality for conditions like short-term memory loss, PTSD and a speech impediment that has developed into a stutter.

Mark Malone of Morgan & Morgan is representing the plaintiff. His complaint says Live Nation, doing business as The Pavilion at Star Lake, was aware of similar incidents in the past.

Live Nation failed to staff Star Lake “with appropriately trained personnel on matters such as how to properly remove and diffuse potentially violent situations…”

Mollenkopf attended Jason Aldean’s concert on Aug. 9, 2025, when he was hit in the back of the head with a full, large beer can, the suit says.

“Upon information and belief, incidents like this have happened prior to Plaintiff’s incident,” the suit says.

“Plaintiff was knocked unconscious after the beer can struck him in the back of the head and suffered severe and permanent injuries…”

Concert-goers should have had to drink beer poured from cans into cups so the cans couldn’t be used as weapons, the suit says. It adds that large cans can be used as weapons.
