MEDIA, Pa. – A Pennsylvania lawn care company says its truck was blasted by fireworks in a Shop Rite parking lot and has filed a lawsuit to recover the damages.

Curious George Lawns sued Shop Rite last week in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas over a 2024 incident involving a Chevy Silverado driven by company owner George Ortiz. The lawsuit says Shop Rite sold fireworks to a minor who, along with friends, ignited them outside the store.

Unfortunately for Ortiz, the “fireworks were misused and wound up causing significant damage,” the suit says.

“As a result of this damage, the vehicle was considered a total loss,” it adds. “Because of the damage to the vehicle, Curious George Lawns was unable to operate, lost customers and incurred lost profits.”

Shop Rite had a duty to the community to safely provide its products but was negligent in selling fireworks to a minor. The company is seeking up to $50,000 in compensation.

Jeffrey First of Philadelphia is representing the plaintiff.
