NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - A civil lawsuit was filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York on Feb. 19 against a New York spiritual healer for allegedly making a patient's illnesses worse after a reiki session.

According to a complaint filed Feb. 19, Lena Giliberti, of Queens, visited defendant Rainer Schulze at Anut Healing LLC for treatment of her physical and spiritual illnesses.

The suit states that Schulze claims to be a spiritual healer capable of healing chronic illness, addiction, trauma and sickness, as well as "psychic surgery and soul retrievals."

In February 2020, Schulze performed a reiki healing treatment on Giliberti; it involved playing music and burning incense while pulling on the plaintiff's limbs.

Giliberti says she experienced greater physical pain and illness after the session than she started with and has since visited multiple medical professionals, accruing $100,000 in medical expenses.

The woman states she was under the impression that Schulze was a medical professional.

The plaintiff is suing the spiritual healer for assault and battery, negligent infliction of emotional distress and intentional infliction of emotional distress. She is demanding judgment that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of lower courts and representing herself.
