HOUSTON — A Harris County man is claiming he and his family couldn’t shower or use the toilets in their home for a year after a fiber optics installer allegedly damaged his sewage line.
Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Anthony Blaylock filed suit against Tachus Infrastructure and Storm-Tek in Harris County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, Tachus entered into a contract with Storm-Tek for the underground installation of fiber optic communication equipment. In November 2003, Blaylock began experiencing major plumbing issues in his home.
“His two bathrooms flooded and overflowed into his bedrooms and closets,” the suit states, adding that he was forced to pull up the carpet and purchase a drain root cleaner but the flooding still continued.
The El Dorado Utility District was called out about the issue and it determined the blockage was on Blaylock’s side of the property line and not the city of Humble’s.
“During this time, Plaintiff and his family could not shower or use the toilet for over a year,” the suit states, adding that several plumbing companies were called out but were not able to resolve the issue.
In November 2024, Blaylock contacted DG Plumbing and the company discovered the issue stemmed from a cable line owned by Tachus that damaged the main sewage line. Tachus was contacted and it repaired the line.
Blaylock is alleging Storm-Tek negligently failed to locate the sewage line prior to its digging activities and failed to perform its work in accordance with industry standards. He is asserting that Tachus exercised control of the company.
He is suing for the money paid for home repairs, loss of use damages, diminished value to the property, personal property loss and lost wages plus attorney fees.
Attorney Carnegie H. Mims, III of the Mims Law Firm in Houston represents him.
