HOUSTON - A woman is suing Slick City Katy after slipping on some mats while taking pictures. 

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Nelly Mateos filed her suit on Jan. 5 in Harris County District Court. 

According to the lawsuit, on May 11, 2024, the plaintiff was at the premises owned by the defendant taking pictures when she slipped on the mats on the floor, resulting in “serious personal injuries.”

“After falling, Plaintiff noticed the mats were stacked on top of each other,” the suit states. “No warning signs were present prior to the incident.”

The plaintiff is alleging gross negligence, arguing that the defendant “proceeded with conscious indifference to the rights and safety of others. 

On top of exemplary damages, she is suing for her past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, impairment, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life.

A woman is claiming that even after attempted repairs her apartment roof collapsed on her while she was sitting on the couch. 

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Daphne Hicks filed suit against Fat Property LLC & Apartment IQS LLCon Jan. 3 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 5, 2025, the plaintiff was on her couch at her residence at Tierwester Village in Houston. Prior to that date, she had notified the defendants that there was a leak in her unit. The defendants attempted to fix the leak “but did not fix the leak in a timely fashion.”

“As Plaintiff was on her couch when the roof of her unit collapsed and struck Plaintiff causing extensive injuries,” the suit states, adding that the defendants owed her a duty to warn her of the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff is asserting that the condition of the area where she was injured posed an unreasonable risk of harm.     

She is accusing the defendants of gross negligence and is seeking damages for her past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of household services.
